 American Legion Memorial Bridge
Pedestrian access to bridges was crucial during the evacuations on 9-11 and during the 2003 blackout. How would pedestrians fare if they had to go between the Maryland and Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC, in an emergency? The American Legion Memorial Bridge is the only connection between Montgomery County, MD, and Fairfax County, VA. It has no provisions whatsoever for pedestrians or bicyclists.
