Pedestrians
leave the Inauguration of President Obama on the I-395 bridge over
the Potomac River. The bridges between northern Virginia and downtown
Washington, DC, were closed to everyone except pedestrians, bicyclists,
and authorized vehicles. The only way the massive crowds could be
handled was by creating a large car-free zone around the mall. People
arrived and left by subway, bus, bicycle, and on foot.
