Photo - Remote location proposed for school.

The remote location proposed for a new school sparked controversy in Sylacauga, Alabama.

The proposed site for a new school in Sylacauga, Alabama, was located out on a highway miles away from the students it would serve. Every student would have to be driven to the school and to after school activities. Concerned citizens proposed an alternative site near downtown Sylacauga, where most students could have walked to school and to all the public facilities concentrated in the downtown area. The school board failed to see the benefit of students walking, and rejected the downtown site.
