An old service road adjacent to a railroad was converted to a pedestrian/bicycle corridor in Salem, Oregon. A modest 4-1/2 foot fence discourages pedestrians from wandering across the tracks away from formal grade crossings. The few remaining motor vehicles on the former service road travel slow enough to yield to the pedestrians.
