  • BAY PEDS. Every journey begins with a single step. Bay Area Pedestrian Collision Map, 1995-1997.

  • Pedsafe.org stencils a body outline to mark the spot in the street where the rush of traffic took another persons life. Over 40 people are killed by automobiles each year while walking in San Francisco.

  • WalkSacramento is dedicated to achieving safe, walkable communities- for personal health and recreation, for livable neighborhoods, for traffic safety, and for clean air.

  • Walk San Francisco promotes walking as a safe and sustainable form of transportation that increases our city's livability, enhances public life, and improves public and environmental health.

  • Walk San Jose is dedicated to making San Jose a better and safer place to walk.

• Georgia - Atlanta Pedestrians Educating Drivers on Safety, Inc. (PEDS) is bringing together citizens who want a better pedestrian environment in metro. A pedestrian is 2.5 times more likely to be killed by a stranger with a car than by a stranger with a gun.

• Hawaii - Na Kama Hele (Hawaiian for "The Travelers" ) brings together citizens who want a better pedestrian environment in communities across the state of Hawai`i.

• Illinois - Bike/Pedestrian Safety Program by University of Illinois Department of Public Safety.

• Minnesota - The Minnesota Safety Council is a private, not-for-profit organization advocating that Pedestrians have the right of way EVERYDAY.

• Missouri - Pedestrian and Pedaling Network "Our coalition is made up of organizations, businesses, and individuals dedicated to improving the quality of life in Columbia through the development of an integrated bicycling, wheeling, and pedestrian network."

• New York/New Jersey/Connecticut - Tri-State Transportation Campaignis a non-profit corporation working to reform transportation systems and policies in the 32-county New York/New Jersey/Connecticut region.

• New York - The Buffalo "Citizens Regional Transit Corporation", "is committed to creating
  a broad base of support for the improvement and expansion of bus and rail transit for all citizens of the Niagara Frontier."

• New York - Introduction to Buffalo and Buffalo Public Transit by Michael E. Lewyn

• New York - Citystreets.org is the only NYC based organization whose primary focus is bringing attention to pedestrian safety issues.

• New York - Transportation Alternative a 4,500-member New York City-area citizens' group working for better bicycling, walking and public transit, and fewer cars.

• Oregon - Willamette Pedestrian Coalition.

• Pennsylvania - Philadelphia PhillyWalks is working hard for pedestrian safety, comfort, and convenience. phillywalks@hotmail.com.

• Texas - Austin WALK Austin was founded in 1993 to organize citizen support for increased use and safety of pedestrian facilities.

• Tennessee - Walk/Bike Nashville making Nashville a more liveable community.

• Virginia - Virginians Interested in the Protection of Pedestrians (VIPP) is a grass
  roots advocacy group promoting stronger crosswalk laws in Virginia.

• Virginia - BikeWalk Virginia "A non-profit organization educating Virgnians about the benefits of biking and walking for tranportation and recreation".

• The Third Annual Virginia BikeWalk Conference is coming up April 1-3, 2001 in Charlottesville.

• Washington - Feet First was created in 1996 to address the unique needs of pedestrians within the Puget Sound region.

• Wisconsin - Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Programs and Services: Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation. Read Roadsharing: Street Smart In The 90's and Walk On The Safe Side.

• Australia - Pedestrian Council of Australia.

• Canada - British Columbia B.E.S.T. Better Environmentally Sound Transportation.

• Canada - Ottawa Auto Free Ottawa, a great set of links to pedestrian sites.

• Canada - Toronto The Intersection a community space for car free living.

• UK - The Pedestrians Association.

• UK - Sustrans is a civil engineering charity which designs and builds routes for cyclists, walkers and people with disabilities. Sustrans is promoting a 6,500-mile National Cycle Network for the United Kingdom which will link schools, houses, shops and workplaces with each other and with the countryside.

• UK - Derbyshire Towpath Action Group Campaigning for better access on the towpaths of the country's canals.

• UK - Jersey Pedestrians Association was founded to raise awareness of the difficulties, problems and dangers of walking in Jersey.

• UK - London RoadPeace supports road traffic victims & educates about road danger.

• Europe - European Federation of Road Traffic Victims is formed by national European associations of victims and families of killed or disabled road traffic victims.
